FIRST IMAGE FROM JOKER: FOLIE Á DEUX

Will the first image from Todd Phillips’ sequel to his controversial billion dollar hit make you put on a happy face?

The first image from Joker: Folie à Deux has been released. Although this sequel to the controversial billion-dollar hit doesn’t arrive in cinemas until October 2024, an image has recently surfaced online. It shows Arthur Fleck, once again played by Joaquin Phoenix, being shaved by an unknown character. From the picture, we see his body is scarred.

The first Joker film was lauded for its grit and for Phoenix’s acting, which won him an Oscar at the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020. However, its suggested politics and perceived pro-incel tone also saw it attacked by many. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, the film went on to make over $1 billion at the box office.

Nonetheless, the sequel came as a surprise to audiences, who felt the film was something of a closed loop, especially considering the shifts in DC’s film output since. Folie à Deux, which means ‘the madness of two’ and may refer to Arthur’s dual mental states, was also something of a surprise as a title. I’m going to on record here and say it will probably be gone from the film by the time it’s released.

The sequel is reported to also star Lady GaGa as Harley Quinn, with Zazie Beetz possibly reprising her role as Sophie Drummond and Brendan Gleeson in an unconfirmed role as well as Industry star Harry Lawtey. By all accounts, the film will be a musical. Again, we’ll see if that’s still the case by the time the film reaches screens! Check out the first image from the film below.
